Aircraft History
If you are considering purchasing a pre-owned Bell Helicopter you are encouraged to check the history of the aircraft. There are some aircraft that have been destroyed in an accident or retired from service that are no longer considered to be genuine Bell Helicopter Aircraft. These aircraft will not be supported by Bell Helicopter. The following items list some steps you can take to check the history of an aircraft.
Destroyed Aircraft
First, confirm the aircraft serial number you are interested in is not recorded in the Bell Flight Safety’s Destroyed Aircraft or Potentially Destroyed Aircraft lists below.
The Bell Helicopter serial numbers on this list are those aircraft that have been officially declared Destroyed by the official governmental agencies charged with investigating the aircraft’s mishap. Bell has submitted letters to Transport Canada and the Federal Aviation Administration requesting removal of these aircraft from the appropriate Type Certificate Data Sheet. Bell Helicopter no longer supports these aircraft.
POTENTIALLY DESTROYED AIRCRAFT
This is a preliminary list of accident aircraft serial numbers which a government agency or other organization has indicated the aircraft is destroyed but the final accident report has not yet been received. Bell may continue to support these aircraft until the official Destroyed declaration is received and the aircraft is transferred to the Destroyed Aircraft list.
Aircraft Data Plates
Second, we suggest you confirm the aircraft is not on the Bell Flight Safety’s Data Plates Destroyed / Retired Aircraft Serial Numbers list. The aircraft owner can choose to remove an aircraft from service for a variety of reasons and submit a Data Plate to Bell for destruction. This is usually completed when the aircraft is damaged beyond economical repair. It can also occur when the owner chooses to retire and/or “part out” the aircraft. The authenticity of any aircraft on this list should be examined very closely and must be properly verified before it will once again be considered a genuine Bell Helicopter.
DATA PLATES DESTROYED / RETIRED AIRCRAFT SERIAL NUMBERS
Helicopters where the data plate has also been surrendered to Bell for destruction are no longer supported by Bell Helicopter and are found on this list.
